Coordinating the Effort
This website is part of a university-wide initiative to encourage — and support — innovation and entrepreneurship throughout Emory.
In April 2024, the university appointed the physician, engineer, researcher and entrepreneur Wilbur Lam to the newly created position of vice provost for entrepreneurship. In his new role, Dr. Wilbur Lam formed a core team to create this website.
The vice provost has three goals:
- Foster a vibrant startup culture among Emory students, working through The Hatchery and other units to expand programming and mentorship for students eager to translate their ideas into marketable products and services.
- Partner with leaders, schools and units across Emory to create better-defined, integrated pathways for faculty and student entrepreneurship.
- Expand the work of Emory Innovations Inc., a holding company of select portfolio companies and initiatives designed to help faculty move rigorously vetted discoveries and inventions to a market-ready stage.
Directly tied to the second goal of the vice provost, Version 1.0 of this site launched in August 2024, with the ultimate aim of helping Emory faculty, staff, students and alumni navigate Emory’s innovation ecosystem.
The team also envisions engaging in the science behind the practice of entrepreneurship. By actively helping Emory people evaluate and test their innovations, the university will develop a stronger and more cohesive community of support.
