For Students

Student entrepreneurship at Emory is growing, and the university is working to build on this momentum. Our aim is to support your ambitions to create new products and services and bring them to the world.

Entrepreneurship May Be a Part of Your Future

“Each of us at Emory is an innovator in some way,” says Wilbur Lam, vice provost for entrepreneurship. “And that’s especially true of Emory students. The university is developing a culture that encourages students to consider an entrepreneurial path, then help them navigate that path.”

The Hatchery exemplifies the university’s fulfillment of this role: It’s helped propel hundreds of Emory student ventures since its 2020 launch. The Hatchery offers programs and a space that:

  • Inspire and equip students with the skills to bring their ideas to life;
  • Provide mentorship, coaching and essential resources, both material and financial; and
  • Create a sense of community, through physical space and making vital connections inside and outside of Emory.

The Hatchery is open to students in every school and at any stage of your entrepreneurial expedition – from exploring an idea to launching a company.

Another resource is the Roberto C. Goizueta Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, which develops and supports students in their entrepreneurial aspirations. The center’s signature activity is the annual Entrepreneurship Summit, which features expert panelists and speakers, networking opportunities and a pitch competition open to all students.

The Goizueta Center also partners with The Hatchery on the Emory Startup Accelerator program, an 8-week program that allows early-stage founders to test, pivot and build their ventures towards investment readiness. Students can participate in the accelerator (as well as faculty, staff and alumni).

Also:

  • Emory Entrepreneurship & Venture Management creates opportunities for students to learn about and experience entrepreneurship first-hand. The program hosts the annual HackATL, a business hackathon drawing hundreds of students from top universities to compete for cash prizes.
  • Students can support faculty and staff entrepreneurship by getting involved with the Emory Biotech Consulting Club. The consulting support role you play offers invaluable experience in several aspects of the journey to market.
